The HISTP holds a variety of research and scientific events designed to expose Scholars and affiliates to state-of-the-art knowledge regarding HIV research, methodological and statistical skills, ethics, and grantwriting. Many of the seminars, workshops, and trainings are also available to other researchers, students, and community service providers.

Twice a year, the HISTP also holds a week-long training Institute for Scholars. These training Institutes are designed to achieve three goals: (1) ensure that all Scholars receive/possess a strong foundation of knowledge and experience in order to secure extramural funds to conduct rigorous HIV-related research with disproportionately affected target populations and the agencies that serve them; (2) provide collective mentorship; and (3) strengthen the training program in conjunction with “sister” programs funded by the same mechanisms.
